The zip is doing more work than people give it credit for. On a midi skirt it becomes the detail that lifts the whole thing, a clean vertical line that adds structure without stiffness, a functional element that somehow reads as intentional and considered. We are very fond of a midi skirt in general but a midi skirt with a good zip is a different proposition entirely. It gives you something to build from. The length already does a lot: it hits at a point that flatters most bodies, works with ankle boots, heels, and flat sandals equally well, and feels grown up without being severe. Add a well placed zip and suddenly the skirt is the centrepiece rather than the backdrop. We have been pulling together the versions where the zip genuinely earns its place, whether that is a front split zip, a side seam detail, or a back fastening that changes the silhouette entirely. These are not skirts that fade into an outfit. These are skirts that give an outfit its reason for existing.
